After working 3 weeks on this present for my sister's [Mekka] birthday it is finally finished and delivered.
This is my very first Rag Doll!! I thought I was never going to finish it because I didn't have a clue of what I was doing. I was learning as I went along. Making the entire doll was a challenge, sewing it together with the little experience that I have was a pain in the neck. lol. I made lots of mistakes and did the wig [hair] 3 times until I got it right [without the curls, of course]. All the clothes were done using only scraps of fabric to make it one of a kind. The only fabric I bought was for the skin. Everything else was using only scraps of fabric and whatever notions I had. I bought a few buttons but that was about all. Using only scraps of material was quite a challenge because the fabric I wanted for the coat was too small and I had only little pieces that I thought I couldn't use for anything. Well, I took my chances and use the fabric but when the coat was finished [barely] it was shorter than I expected. So, I did what I always do when not having enough fabric, I sewed all the little pieces together and added it to the bottom to add some length. The rest of the little pieces were used to add the other details like pockets, etc. Making the shoes was also one of the hardest parts. And getting the right hairdo was another challenge, that is if I wanted to look a bit like the real Sherlock. Although, I didn't finish it on time my sis still loved it so MUCH. My sis and mom even cried when they saw it, well, they were crying because they couldn't believe that i made that doll [Geez, give me some credit, I'm not the best but I give my best]. It was so much fun making this doll and it was double the fun because is SHERLOCK HOLMES!!! My sis and I are fan of BBC Sherlock and I couldn't think of any better present for her. So, I decided to make her a Rag Doll of our beloved Sherlock.
